Sensor OS

SensorOS - The operating system for RFID

What is SensorOS? Just as the a key element of a PC is the operating system running on the machine enabling humans to interact with that machine, epcSolutions’ SensorOS is the a key element of the machine to machine interaction inherent in RFID.  When considering an RFID application at any level of deployment, a complete solution will require a “sensor” operating system—which epcSolutions has created: SensorOS.

For even the simplest solution, RFID hardware needs to be connected to databases and applications. Tags and antennas talk to each other—but the function of searching for tags is actually handled by the reader. The operating system steps in after the reader talks to the antenna, and then SensorOS talks to the reader.

To add a printer to a PC Windows has printer drivers, which tell Windows the type of printer that it is and the “language” that the printer speaks. In the RFID world, SensorOS controlls the communication link to an output device. To add an RFID printer Sensor OS has printer drivers, which tells SensorOS the type of printer that it is and the “language” the printer speaks, whether it is Printronix’s PPL or Zebra’s ZPL.

SensorOS talks to a printer and then talks to the Sensor EPCIS database where EPCs are stored.
